Teofimo Lopez defeated Martin by split decision

The former absolute champion in the light weight of the American Teofimo Lopez defeated the Spaniard Sandor Martin and won the title of the WBO international champion in the first welterweight. The fight also had the status of a WBC eliminator fight.

The fight took place in New York at Madison Square Garden. The fighters were constantly exchanging blows at the beginning of the fight, and Lopez was even knocked down in the second round.

In the future, Teofimo was more active and delivered more accurate blows, which allowed him to win by a split decision of the judges - 96-93, 97-92, 94-95.

It will be recalled that Martin replaced Lopez Jose Pedrasa from Puerto Rico as his opponent. Pedrasa withdrew from the fight due to illness.
