Teofimo Lopez Sr., trainer and father of American boxer Teofimo Lopez, shared his thoughts on the upcoming title fight between lightweight division's undisputed champion Devin Haney and Vasyl Lomachenko. According to Lopez Sr., the American can only win under one specific condition throughout the fight.
"Let's rate Loma, who fought with us, at 10 points. If in the fight with Haney, he performs at 6.5-7 points, then he will beat this kid. Why? Because to win against Lomachenko, you have to be absolutely versatile. In other words, you can't keep doing the same thing, because Lomachenko will exploit that and get you," Lopez Sr. explained.
He added, "I think Lomachenko really wants to redeem himself in boxing and reclaim all those belts. That's what he has always wanted. So, I'm expecting him to come back at probably a seven. Not at a ten, like when we fought him. But you never know."
Lopez Sr. is certain that the American can only win on points. "It's a very difficult fight for Haney. The only chance I give him is if he maintains his distance all night, uses his jab like he always does, and wins on points. But it's going to be very difficult," he said during an interview with the MillCity Boxing YouTube channel.
The fight between Devin Haney and Vasyl Lomachenko is set for May 20th in Las Vegas. Lopez Sr. had previously made a prediction for the match.
