Tszyu vs. Ortiz - Turki's Idea

British promoter Eddie Hearn shared how the match between Tim Tszyu (24-1, 17 KOs) and Vergil Ortiz (20-0, 20 KOs) came to be. Their fight is scheduled for August 3rd in Los Angeles.

"These fights are what Turki Al-Sheikh requested. All of us, all the promotional companies, propose fights to him. Tszyu against Ortiz is his fight.

He chose this matchup, and I think it's one of the best in the sport. I really like Tim Tszyu. I find him a very interesting fighter.

I favor Ortiz in this even matchup, which will take place in Los Angeles. He will have tremendous support there, but Tim can really fight, and he's enjoyable to watch," said Hearn.

On August 3rd in Los Angeles, the bout between Terence Crawford and Israel Madrimov will take place. On the undercard, Andy Ruiz, Isaac Cruz, and many others will fight - here's the full list.

Meanwhile, the Tszyu vs. Ortiz pairing has not been officially announced yet. This is because Vergil needs to defeat Thomas Dulorme on the night of April 28th. Concurrently, the WBA has already sanctioned the Tszyu vs. Ortiz matchup.
