Renowned American trainer Robert Garcia suggests that WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) should avoid major fights for now. Following his defeat to Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs), Robert advises against jumping back into another high-profile clash or a rematch.
"If he has a tune-up fight by the end of the year, he could handle that. But not a big, serious fight or a rematch, he shouldn't do that.
The rematch should happen next summer. If he fights by the end of the year, it should be an easy fight.
It's still a very competitive, close fight. It will also be a tough fight for Ryan. I think Devin can win the rematch, but it needs to be a sensible fight, a good training camp, good sparring, and a solid game plan," said Robert Garcia.
Ryan Garcia defeated Devin Haney by a decision, sending him to the canvas three times. Following this, he announced that he would be moving up to a heavier weight class.
