American trainer Robert Garcia believes that the next opponent for IBF and IBO lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) Vasyl Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) should be WBC champion Shakur Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs). He explained why this fight is essential for Lomachenko.
«I don't know what's bigger for Lomachenko right now than, for example, a unification fight with Shakur.
I don't think there are many fights in the lightweight division that will bring Vasyl big money. And if he doesn’t get Shakur as an opponent, he might even consider retiring.
But if Lomachenko fights Shakur, he’s already entering the Boxing Hall of Fame, having achieved so much. I've always loved his style and wish him only the best. But there is a possibility that Vasyl might not step into the ring again,» said Garcia.
Stevenson will have his next fight this summer against Harutyunyan, and then he wants Lomachenko as his next opponent.
