Todd DuBoef, the president of Top Rank Promotions, shared his thoughts on a potential matchup between two former heavyweight world champions from Britain, Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) and Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs).
“They are still two great fighters in the ring. Period. I believe their brands are so strong. In the UK, the country would stop for an hour to see what happens, and that’s great. They’ve created an incredible fan base and a craving for who they are, so I believe the fight remains relevant.
The daily grind of tough training, the discipline—that’s what they need to decide on. Whether they want it. I think they need to decide if they want to keep fighting, let alone fight each other. I’ve always said for many years that these two brands and their fan bases are so big and tightly connected that this fight will always be relevant.
And I still believe this fight will always be on the horizon. They’re like peanut butter and jelly—Joshua and Fury—they go together. I think it’s always going to be possible, but they have to look within and decide whether they want it. Not just this fight, but whether they want to step into the ring again at all. Do they want to go back to training?” said DuBoef.
In September, Anthony Joshua was knocked out in the fifth round by Daniel Dubois. On December 21, Tyson Fury lost to Oleksandr Usyk by unanimous decision.
