“It Makes No Sense”: Bohachuk’s Promoter Appeals to WBC Over Rankings

Promoter of Ukrainian Super Welterweight boxer Serhii Bohachuk, Tom Loeffler, has announced that he has filed an appeal with the WBC regarding the Ukrainian’s position in the organization’s updated ratings.

“Last year, Bohachuk fought an official eliminator for the mandatory challenger status against Ismael Davis in Riyadh. Since then, he has patiently been waiting for the WBC to officially designate him as the mandatory challenger.

He has stayed active and already has a fight scheduled against Brandon Adams as part of the big Canelo vs. Crawford card on September 13.

In the latest rankings, I noticed that Jaron Ennis moved up to No.1, while Serhii was placed at No.2. This makes no sense if Serhii is the official mandatory challenger. It is also illogical because Ennis has never fought at Super Welterweight. The third reason it makes no sense is that Ennis’ next fight is an official WBA eliminator. As far as I know, WBC rules exclude boxers from their rankings if they are participating in another organization’s eliminator bout.

In light of these points, I respectfully request that the Ratings Committee restore Serhii Bohachuk to his rightful No.1 position as the mandatory challenger for the world title,” said Loeffler.

Bohachuk (26-2, 24 KOs) will have his next fight on the undercard of the Canelo vs. Crawford showdown. The WBC will review the appeal through its Appeals Committee.
