Thurman Explains Why Haney Took So Many Knockdowns

Former world champion Keith Thurman explained why WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) received three knockdowns in his fight against Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs) and ultimately lost. Keith believes that Ryan will have no problems in the rematch as well.

"When Bill Haney said last year that his son was ready for PPV at super lightweight, I told him that he would suffer there. Today he was punished in the super lightweight.

Congratulations to Ryan. Haney has no survival skills, no adjustments. He had time to gather his strength. Today was not his night. Good fight, but not the fight of the year, as the commentators advertised it. Ryan, give him a rematch. These pillow fists won't hurt you, easy money," Thurman wrote.

Garcia won the fight by judges' decision but did not become champion—because he did not make the weight before the fight and was over by 1.5 kilograms more than 140 lbs (63.5 kg). Devin lost but retained his title.
