Manager of the undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) and Head of Partnership at Ready To Fight, Egis Klimas, shared the current status of negotiations with the International Boxing Federation (IBF) regarding Usyk’s title, which might be declared vacant.
«We are waiting for a decision. I think this is more important for Tyson Fury than for Oleksandr.
Oleksandr is a two-time undisputed champion, and if the next fight is only for three belts, I don’t think it would be fair to either of the two guys: Tyson Fury or Oleksandr.
But in terms of importance, I believe it’s more crucial for Team Fury to get this title. Imagine if Fury wins – he wouldn’t be the undisputed champion, he would lose the chance.
The condition of the rematch was that both should have the chance to be undisputed champions. I hope the IBF makes the right decision,» said Klimas.
Earlier, IBF President Daryl Peoples mentioned that a reigning champion could request an exception to any federation rule. Usyk’s team has submitted the corresponding request and is awaiting a decision.
