"They Said Lomachenko is Going to Retire": WBO President Discusses the Career of the Ukrainian Boxer

During a World Boxing Organization (WBO) committee meeting, President Francisco Valcarcel talked about the potential future of Ukrainian boxer Vasyl Lomachenko, a former world champion in three weight divisions.

"I was told that Lomachenko is going to retire. I have my doubts, but we'll have to wait and see" Valcarcel stated during the meeting.

Lomachenko's most recent fight took place in May of this year, in which he suffered a defeat to Devin Haney. Following that, Bob Arum revealed that Vasyl had declined to participate in boxing matches for the rest of 2023. The Ukrainian fighter currently holds second position in the WBO rankings. The top spot is occupied by American Shakur Stevenson, while the reigning champion, Devin Haney, has announced his intention to compete in the super lightweight division for his next bout.
