The World Boxing Council (WBC) has sanctioned a fight between WBC, WBA and IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) against challenger Keith Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs)
The decision was made during the 60th annual conference of the WBC in Acapulco. The fight can be held at the end of this year or at the beginning of 2023.
Earlier in the year, Spence negotiated a fight with Terence Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) for the title of absolute welterweight champion.
Spence, 32, has collected three welterweight championship belts with title fights over Kelly Brook, Shawn Porter and Yordenis Ugas. In December 2020, the American defended his titles, defeating Danny Garcia by unanimous decision
33-year-old Thurman was the WBA and WBC welterweight champion. He suffered his only defeat in his career against the legendary Manny Pacquiao in July 2019.
