The Reason WBC Sanctioned the Fury-Ngannou Fight is Revealed

Mauricio Sulaiman, the president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), has shed light on the decision to sanction the fight between heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury and MMA fighter Francis Ngannou.

According to Sulaiman, the organization granted permission for the British boxer to step into the ring as a result of his potential opponents declining to engage with him.

"The WBC is absolutely supportive of Tyson Fury and his decision to engage in a non-title bout and a WBC special event contest. He has tried to land a fight with the unified champion several times, with [Anthony] Joshua and [Andy] Ruiz and all credible opponents, and not having a mandatory contender he may engage in this type of event under the WBC rules," Sulaiman was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
