Oscar De La Hoya informed ESPN that talks for a match between lightweight prospect Ryan Garcia (23 wins, 19 knockouts) and reigning WBA champion Jervonta Davis (28 wins, 26 knockouts) have hit a roadblock.
"The problem is that we cannot decide who will control the rematch. Now everything has stalled. I think it should be that if Ryan wins, then he should dictate the terms as side A, if the other way around, then Davis. It has always been so. Common sense dictates that the winner should be Side A and there is no need to reinvent the wheel.
Al Haymon, Davis' promoter, dictates the terms. We conceded on many points: weighing, and many other things. We gave in and agreed. It was really nice to be close to wrapping everything up, and now they insist that if Ryan loses, there will be no rematch. We hope that their side will come to their senses and this match will take place. We at Golden Boy are simply trying to safeguard our fighters."
As previously reported, should the Davis vs. Garcia fight come to fruition, it will take place at a Las Vegas arena boasting a capacity of 70,000.
