British boxer Jack Catterall has cast doubt on his potential fight against WBO junior welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez, saying the American may be planning a move up in weight.
“Liam Paro will be defending his IBF title on December 7—that’s one option.
As for the WBO, I've heard that Teofimo is moving up to welterweight. I'd like a fight with him, whether it’s in this weight class or another. If he vacates the junior welterweight title, then we’ve got the Barboza vs. Ramirez fight, which could become a title bout. The WBO Congress should be taking place soon, and I hope Sam (Catterall’s manager) or someone else can push us in that direction.
Over the past 48 hours, there’s also been talk of a fight with Devin Haney. I welcome that match, but above all, I want a shot at becoming a world champion,” Catterall emphasized.
In 2024, Teofimo Lopez fought twice, securing victories over Jamaine Ortiz and Steve Claggett.
