According to journalist Keith Idec, WBO super welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez (21–1, 13 KOs) has declined a bout against former IBF champion Subriel Matias (21–2, 21 KOs).
Lopez turned down the final offer from Top Rank, which, according to the journalist, “far exceeded his contractual minimum.” The fight between Lopez and Matias was slated for March 15 in Las Vegas.
Theophimo himself commented on the situation:
“I’m flattered that you all want to see me fight right now. However, I have unfinished business with Top Rank Inc. I will be fighting this year, and that’s guaranteed by the heavyweights. In due time, you’ll understand why I did what I did,”
Lopez wrote, leaving fans eager for what comes next.
