IBF junior welterweight champion Richardson Hitchins (19-0, 7 KOs) announced that he will face WBO champion Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) in 2025.
"I couldn’t care less about Devin Haney. I’m the champion. He’s no longer the champion. If he wants a chance at the title, let him come and talk to me. The situation has changed. I’m not even going to talk about Devin Haney because I don’t want to hit a man when he’s down. He’s going through struggles. He’s got serious mental issues right now.
Teo (Teofimo Lopez – ed.) definitely needs to meet me. I recently spoke to him on FaceTime, and he said he’ll fight me in 2025. He said he’ll fight me. He said, ‘This is the fight that boxing needs.’ So, let’s see if he’s lying. If he is, I’ll be pissed," said Hitchins.
On December 7, Hitchins defeated Liam Paro by split decision to claim the IBF title. In June, Teofimo defended his title against Steve Claggett, winning by unanimous decision.
