Brian McIntyre, trainer of WBA and interim WBO super welterweight champion Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs), addressed the possibility of his fighter taking on WBO junior welterweight titleholder Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs).
"I don’t pay attention to him. I don’t understand him, but he’s doing whatever he can to get this fight. But it’s not going to happen.
Let me tell you right away—he’s not getting a fight with Terence. It’s just empty talk.
If he wants to fight, he should move up in weight. Fight [Jaron] Ennis, because right now, he’s the king of the welterweight division.
Would a fight between Lopez and Crawford be interesting? The only interesting part would be watching him get knocked out. It wouldn’t be a competitive fight," said McIntyre.
In June, Teofimo Lopez defended his title by unanimous decision against Steve Claggett (38-8-2, 26 KOs).
On August 3, Terence Crawford made his debut in a new division and claimed a title by defeating Israil Madrimov (10-1-1, 7 KOs) via unanimous decision.
