Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson Reach Deal for Their Fight – Insider

Insider Chris Mannix has reported that WBO Junior Welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez and WBC Lightweight titleholder Shakur Stevenson have reached an agreement for a fight.

“As far as I know, the matter is already settled: the fight between Teofimo and Shakur will take place in New York on the final weekend of January. The planned date is January 31.

To be honest, I don’t love this matchup stylistically — it could end up being boring. But Shakur is the leading boxer at Lightweight, and Teofimo is the leading boxer at Junior Welterweight. If there’s an opportunity to put two stars of this caliber in the ring, it’s a good idea. It will be a good fight.

I’m glad the sides finally reached an agreement. The bout will likely take place at Madison Square Garden. It’s good that everything is settled — we’re going to see these two fighters in the ring,” Mannix said.

Teofimo Lopez (22-1, 13 KOs) last fought in May against Arnold Barboza, winning by unanimous decision.

In July, Shakur Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) also won by unanimous decision, defeating William Zepeda.
