Former undisputed junior welterweight (up to 63.5 kg) champion Josh Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs) opened up about his condition before the fight with Jack Catterall (28-1, 13 KOs) and disclosed the reasons for his loss to WBO champion Teofimo Lopez (20-1, 13 KOs).
"This time I'm 100% ready. 100%, because now there's nothing hindering my preparation. It might sound like I'm making excuses again, but I had a f###ing injury. Ahead of the fight with Teofimo, I couldn't work with my legs or spar. I couldn't run, couldn't make the weight – nothing heavy for the legs.
I got back to sparring just six weeks before the fight, but honestly, I sparred well. I felt in shape, strong. So, I decided to fight. That's how I felt, and I prepared well in the gym, but come fight night, my legs weren't there.
He beat me that night. He was better than me and beat me, that's all there is to it," Taylor said.
The rematch between Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall is scheduled for April 27 in Leeds, United Kingdom. In their first fight in February 2022, Taylor won by a majority decision, having been knocked down twice and suffered a cut.
Recall, on February 19, a face-off took place where Catterall grabbed Taylor by the throat, with only the security preventing a fight, and on February 20, at the second press conference, Josh called Jack a "muppet".
