Taylor: «I’ll Prove I’m Still at the Top»

Former undisputed junior welterweight champion (up to 63.5 kg) Josh Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs) shared his thoughts on the upcoming fight against Jack Catterall (28-1, 13 KOs) and stated that past failures do not make him a bad fighter.

«Look back at boxing history – all the great fighters have had defeats and poor performances. Just because someone shows one or a few poor performances, does that make you a terrible fighter? It just means you were terrible on that night, that’s all.

It’s just a bad performance, that’s all. I will prove that on Saturday night, that I am still at the top of the game. It’s not that Jack was great, it’s because I was terrible. If I hadn’t had an injury, we would have had the rematch immediately, but I got injured, Jack had another fight, and he failed. Then he changed promoters, and then I had my mandatory defense against Teofimo Lopez. It seems everyone keeps blaming me, but there are a lot of things that were out of my control.

If it had been up to me, we would have had this rematch a long time ago, but things happened as they did. We are here now, and better late than never. I can’t wait for Saturday night. It’s been a long time coming, that’s for sure,» said Taylor.

The fight between Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall will take place on May 25 in Leeds, UK.

In their first bout, Taylor defeated Catterall by split decision. This was Josh’s first and only defense of his undisputed world champion status – he subsequently lost 3 of the 4 titles, and the last remaining WBO belt he lost to Teofimo Lopez.
