On May 6 in Tokyo, Japan, the undercard of the Inoue vs. Nery event featured a fight between Takuma Inoue (20-1, 5 KOs) and Sho Ishida (34-4, 17 KOs) for the WBA bantamweight title (up to 53.5 kg).
The fight went all twelve rounds, ending in a victory for Inoue with scores of 116-111 and 118-109 twice. In the early rounds, Inoue was knocked down after taking a jab.
Takuma won the title in spring 2023 with a victory over Liborio Solis. This was Inoue's second successful title defense and second win in a row in 2024. Ishida entered the title fight on a five-fight winning streak.
