Suleiman Supports Replays for Usyk-Fury Rematch

The President of the World Boxing Council (WBC) and Ready To Fight advisor, Mauricio Sulaiman, has called for the use of video replays in the rematch between British fighter Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) and Ukrainian undisputed heavyweight champion (over 90.7 kg) Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs).

"Video replay is a rule that has been in effect within the WBC for the past few years, but it is a complicated situation with the British Boxing Board of Control, as they do not agree to its use. However, during the rules meetings for the last fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, we insisted that video replay be used in the interests of the WBC. We will push for this in the Usyk-Fury rematch and in every fight involving the WBC.

During the first fight, the Middle East Professional Boxing Commission was the local governing body, but the British Boxing Board of Control had a significant influence on them, so they did not agree to our conditions. But ultimately, the WBC made it clear that if there are major disagreements, we reserve the right to make a decision after reviewing the controversial moment on a big screen to impact the situation," said Sulaiman.

It is worth noting that Mauricio Sulaiman had already advocated for the introduction of video replays in the first fight between Fury and Usyk, as well as increasing the number of ringside judges to six, but the proposal was not supported.

On the night of May 19, Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury by a split decision and became the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. Usyk is the first undisputed champion in this division since November 13, 1999, when Lennox Lewis defeated Evander Holyfield in a rematch. The rematch is scheduled for December 21.
