Sulaiman: «For Me, Bohachuk is a Champion»

World Boxing Council (WBC) President Mauricio Sulaiman stated that he considers Ukrainian Serhii Bohachuk (24-1, 23 KOs) a champion in the junior middleweight division (up to 68.85 kg). While Serhii holds the status of an interim champion, the full title is held by Sebastian Fundora, who will next face Errol Spence.

«I was not surprised. I was confident and happy about his victory. I saw Serhii many years ago; he was an excellent prospect. He is a warrior. He had COVID, and right after that, he fought and lost. He was sick.

But now he is back, fought Mendoza, and won the WBC title. I am very proud of Serhii; he is a great person. He recently had a baby. He fights in memory of his brother, who is currently at war.

It is a good story, and I am very proud of Serhii. He is already a world champion. Interim or not, he is already a champion. Interim only due to circumstances. For me, for the world, for the WBC – he is a world champion,» said Sulaiman.
