Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez has announced that Mexican boxer William Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) has sustained a hand injury, causing the postponement of his fight against WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs), originally scheduled for February 22.
“Zepeda is injured. He hurt his hand. We are currently exploring options for a new date because Zepeda is committed to this fight,” Gomez told ESNEWS.
On November 16, William Zepeda defeated Tevin Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs) via split decision to claim the interim WBC lightweight title.
In July, Shakur Stevenson secured a unanimous decision victory over Artem Harutyunyan (12-2, 7 KOs). Stevenson was scheduled to face Joe Cordina (17-1, 9 KOs) on October 12, but the fight was canceled due to a hand injury suffered by the American fighter.
