WBC lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) Shakur Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs) stated that the idea of facing Mexican William Zepeda (30-0, 26 KOs) excites him.

"Considering that Maxi Hughes gave Kambosos the fight of his life, and Zepeda literally demolished him, how good is Kambosos? Or a better question, how good is Zepeda? I'm thrilled; let's make Stevenson vs. Zepeda next, please," Shakur wrote on his Twitter.

Zepeda beat Maxi Hughes in four rounds – Hughes' team didn't let him out for the fifth. After the match, William called out Shakur for a bout. The American immediately agreed.
