WBC lightweight world champion Shakur Stevenson (23-0, 11 KOs) has declared his readiness to step into the ring against WBA titleholder Gervonta “Tank” Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs), urging him to make the highly anticipated showdown happen.
“I’m exactly the guy the boxing world wants to see fight you. Wherever you go, it’s all about ‘Shakur and Tank.’ I’m sure every time he shows up somewhere, he hears my name. So let’s make it happen. Let’s fight.
I told him: ‘You’re a huge superstar.’ So let’s just set up the fight. We could even talk it over on the phone — I’m all for it. I’m not high — I’m serious. This is boxing, this is show business.
We’ll get in the ring and put on a real show for the fans. We’ll show the whole world who’s the best. One of us has to lose — either me or him — to make history. So let’s go,” said Stevenson.
According to preliminary reports, Shakur Stevenson is expected to face interim WBC champion William Zepeda on July 12.
As for Gervonta Davis, a rematch against Lamont Roach — after their first fight ended in a majority draw on March 1 — is rumored for June 21 in Las Vegas, though it has not yet been officially confirmed.
