American Derrick James will become the new trainer of the ex-world champion in super heavyweight Anthony Joshua. He will replace Robert Garcia.
The parties will sign a short-term agreement. James is also the trainer of Errol Spence and Jermell Charlo. In 2017, James was named The Ring Magazine's Trainer of the Year.
Joshua is soon to arrive at James' gym in Texas, USA, and begin his training camp.
Joshua is said to have also considered the candidacies of Virgil Hunter and Roy Jones. Roy Jones previously said he could become Joshua's trainer and said Anthony lost his rematch with WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk due to a misunderstanding with his trainer Robert Garcia.
It will be recalled that promoter Eddie Hearn said that Joshua will soon announce the name of a new trainer, and the next fight will be held in April this year.
Deontay Wilder's coach, Malik Scott, said that Joshua's next opponent could be the 40-year-old American Gerald Washington. Joshua himself said that he wants to enter the ring in the next fight with Dillian Whyte.
