IBA International featherweight champion Oleksandr Solomennikov (16-0, 8 KOs) and super lightweight prospect Danylo Lozan (12-0, 8 KOs) have been confirmed as participants in the WBC Boxing Grand Prix, a large-scale tournament set to take place in Saudi Arabia as part of Riyadh Season.
The tournament will feature 128 fighters across four weight divisions:
– Featherweight (126 lbs / 57.2 kg)
– Super lightweight (140 lbs / 63.5 kg)
– Middleweight (160 lbs / 72.6 kg)
– Heavyweight (200+ lbs / 90.7+ kg)
Each division will include 32 fighters, with the tournament champion receiving the prestigious José Sulaimán Trophy, named after the former WBC president.
Tournament Format:
Top 32 round: 6-round fights
Final: 8-round fight (originally planned for 10 rounds)
All boxers will undergo random drug testing under the WBC Clean Boxing Program and VADA
A potential extra round in case of a draw
Open scoring system and instant replays to prevent controversial decisions
The start date has yet to be announced, but the first fights are expected to take place in April.
