In an interview with TalkSPORT, heavyweight boxer Agron Smakici (20-2, 18 KOs) recounted the incident of the cut Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs), the WBC champion, received during sparring with him.
"It was nothing out of the ordinary, we had a good sparring session before that. He just lit the fire with his bad words and dirty moves. When my head was down, he pulled some dirty tricks, and that got me fired up.
Then I gave it my all, 100 percent, and unfortunately, the injury happened… He said some things, but it's not about what he said. He pulled my head down. Even though I've taken his head down many times because I have good wrestling skills, he took my head down once and did bad things with it, if you know what I mean.
I'm 100 percent sure it was my fist. Besides, after the cut happened, he didn't say, 'Hey, that was an elbow' or anything like that. There's a difference between an elbow and a fist in a glove – you feel the elbow, it's like a hammer. Maybe the punch slid off, but it wasn't intentional," said Smakici.
As a reminder, the fight for the undisputed heavyweight world title between Tyson Fury and the holder of the WBO, WBA, IBO, and IBF titles, Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs), was postponed to May 18th due to the cut the Brit received in sparring. The event will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
