WBC Lightweight Champion Shakur Stevenson responded to comments from Welterweight contender Ryan Garcia, who called him an overrated fighter.
Shakur: “Dude just admitted he’s scared of Rolly’s power. My mistake, because I thought that wasn’t his best version. That’s why you messed up — because power isn’t everything, you bum.”
Ryan: “You’re mad because I told the truth. You haven’t fought a guy with real power, and when you did, it wasn’t your best performance. Anyone with eyes can see that. Don’t be so sensitive — this is a fighting game.”
Shakur: “I’m not mad at all, Ryan. How could I be? You’re the one who got embarrassed in your last fight against Rolly. And I went in against a real Mexican fighter with a real Mexican style (William Zepeda) and beat him at his own game! That’s different levels. Hit me up when you win your first world title.”
On July 12, Shakur Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) defeated William Zepeda by unanimous decision to retain his world title.
In May, Ryan Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) lost to Rolando Romero by unanimous decision, after being knocked down in the second round.
