WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson spoke about where things stand between him and Matchroom Boxing, as well as promoter Eddie Hearn.
“Eddie’s my guy. To be honest, I don’t have a contract with Matchroom, but he’s my guy. I’m a big Eddie Hearn fan — I respect him — and I’m happy he’s the promoter of this show (the fight vs. Teofimo Lopez — ed.). I’m glad to share the spotlight with his promotional company.
It’s just business. If it makes sense, then I’ll sign with Matchroom. If it gets to that point and it’s logical — we’ll do it. But right now, I just don’t think it makes sense,” Shakur said.
On January 31 at Madison Square Garden in New York, USA, Shakur Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) will face Teofimo Lopez. The WBO and The Ring titles at junior welterweight, currently held by Lopez, will be on the line.
