Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn has revealed the details of the contract with WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs).
"The first step of the plan is the fight against Joe Cordina on October 12. If Shakur wins – the next step is Zepeda in February.
This is a two-fight deal to establish our relationship, show Shakur what we can deliver, and potentially set up a fight with Gervonta Davis next summer.
The fight against Zepeda could be held in the USA or Riyadh," Hearn stated.
Previously, Stevenson was under contract with Top Rank, managed by Bob Arum, which ended after his fight against Artem Harutyunyan in the summer of 2024, where Shakur won by decision.
Shakur’s next fight is scheduled for October 12 in Saudi Arabia against Joe Cordina.
Commenting on the contract with Matchroom, Shakur also mentioned Zepeda:
"I’m ready to start a new chapter in my career, beginning on October 12 with a fight against Joe Cordina as part of Riyadh Season in Saudi Arabia.
I’ve made it clear that I want big names and big fights in this sport. Bring on William Zepeda in 2025, and I’ll be ready for anyone brave enough to step in the ring with me. In recent years, there haven’t been many takers.
With Matchroom and Riyadh Season, I’m aligning myself with promotional power that matches world-class talent.
We’ll be relentless both in and out of the ring. I’ll be showcasing my dominance in boxing for many more years," Stevenson said.
