In a conversation on the YouTube channel Punsh Drunk Boxing, WBC lightweight (up to 61,2 kg) champion Shakur Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs) commented on the possibility of a fight against IBF junior welterweight (up to 63,5 kg) champion Subriel Matias (20-1, 20 KOs).
"I appreciate the fans who embrace me, talk about it, and show their support. In that sense, they light up along with me. I don't want to force this on anyone because, after all, I didn't know my father. So, I value those who accept me, but I must remain honest with them when talking about this.
I think a fight with Matias would be hellacious. He's one of those you have to kill in the ring to stop the fight. But he would have to deal with my style, and I'm not just some average joe who will stand in front of him.
It could be an interesting fight. I have nothing but respect and love for him. I hope this guy makes it big in the junior welterweight. If our fight makes sense – I'm all for it," said Stevenson.
In his last fight in November of the previous year for the vacant WBC lightweight belt against Edwin De Los Santos (16-2, 14 KOs), Shakur won by unanimous decision. Subriel Matias defended his title against Shohjahon Ergashev (23-1, 20 KOs) – the Uzbek did not come out for the 6th round due to a leg injury.
