WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs) reached out to Golden Boy head Oscar De La Hoya to clarify the situation regarding a potential fight against Mexican William Zepeda (30-0, 26 KOs).
Shakur stated, "Hey, Oscar. I still haven't heard anything about my fight with Zepeda on July 6th. How can you keep repeating my name over and over again and do nothing for the next fight? Did you use me to promote your fighter or what?"
Oscar responded, "Zepeda will soon have his second fight of the year. I'll talk to your promoter in the third quarter of this year."
On March 17th, William Zepeda faced British fighter Maxi Hughes (26-7-2, 5 KOs) in a WBA and IBF eliminator. The fight ended with Zepeda's victory after Hughes refused to continue the fight — RTD in the 4th round. Now, William is the mandatory challenger for the WBA and IBF lightweight titles.
The last time Stevenson was in the ring was in November of the previous year, when he defeated Edwin De Los Santos (16-2, 14 KOs) and won the vacant WBC title.
