Shakur Defends Haney: "This Shows His Character"

WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson has spoken out in defense of Devin Haney, who has been receiving criticism following his performances and public persona.

"It’s completely unjustified. People need to understand one thing — how many times did he get up in that fight with Ryan? That shows his character. When people put everything on the line, you’ve got to respect that. I definitely respect the Mexican heritage, but I don’t think we’d be saying the same things if he were a Mexican fighter.

If it’s because of his dad, I get it. Bill talks a lot. But when Devin keeps getting up in the ring like that, respect it."

Haney’s next fight is scheduled for May 2 against Jose Carlos Ramirez in New York.
