CEO of Oleksandr Usyk’s team Serhii Lapin has explained why his brother, WBA Continental, WBO International, and IBF Inter-Continental Light Heavyweight champion Daniel Lapin, is set to face Britain’s Troy Jones.
— Does Daniel Lapin have a contract with Frank Warren and Queensberry, and why did you decide to make the fight with Troy Jones?
– Ben and George from Queensberry called me, offering a fight between Daniel Lapin and Troy Jones. We agreed it’s a good fight, good for Daniel. We haven’t signed a contract with Queensberry.
— Alright. But if everything goes well on November 1 against Troy – he already beat Lewis Edmonson, and if he beats Troy Jones – what’s next for Daniel, in your opinion?
– We’re going step by step. We’ll see who the next opponent will be. We like the UK. Very strong guys in Light Heavyweight, and in Heavyweight too, – said Lapin.
The fight between Lapin (12-0, 4 KOs) and Jones (12-1, 6 KOs) will take place on November 1 in Manchester. In his previous fight, Daniel claimed victory on the undercard of Usyk–Dubois II.
