Former world champion Vyacheslav Senchenko commented on the upcoming fight between Ukrainian light heavyweight (up to 79.4 kg) Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs) and the "interim" WBC super middleweight (up to 76.2 kg) champion David Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs).
- In June, Gvozdyk will fight Benavidez. Benavidez is unbeatable, and Gvozdyk had a long layoff followed by mid-level fights. How do you beat such a Benavidez?
- I believe that the advantage here is more on the side of Benavidez, as you said, he is currently in the best shape, he hasn't had long breaks, he is improving fight by fight. Gvozdyk has been in decline; he hasn’t boxed for several years, and it’s not easy to get back into optimal, let alone top, form. Plus, there's his age; he's an older, experienced boxer.
I think it will be a tough fight for Gvozdyk. He also has skill and a high level. So, if he does come to the fight in his best shape, it will be a very competitive match.
Official details about the fight between Oleksandr Gvozdyk and David Benavidez have not been announced yet. Preliminary information suggests the fight will take place on either June 15 or June 22.
