Rene Santiago Claims Victory Over Takami

33-year-old Puerto Rican Rene Santiago met with local 23-year-old previously undefeated boxer Kyosuke Takami on December 17 in Japan. The WBO and WBA Light Flyweight titles (up to 49 kg) were on the line.

Santiago secured the victory via split decision: 116-112 for Takami, and 115-113 and 117-111 for Santiago. Now Rene is the unified world champion.

For Takami (10-1, 8 KOs), this is the first defeat in his career. Santiago (15-4, 9 KOs) extended his streak to three decision wins in a row.
