American star Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) has expressed interest in facing Jaron “Boots” Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs), the unified WBA and IBF welterweight champion.
“One hundred percent. Another big fight, another mega-event. That’s what I love — I don’t duck opponents who are chasing greatness too. He looked good [against Eimantas Stanionis].
I think Stanionis was the perfect opponent to shine against — he’s open, he gets hit a lot, doesn’t have much of a defensive game. And ‘Boots’ did exactly what he needed to and looked great doing it. I’m looking forward to serious competition in the future.
Yes, Ennis does get hit. He’s a big guy, so he absorbs them well — for now. But in this sport, one clean shot can change everything. I’m way faster and more explosive than Stanionis. I’m way more aggressive, so that might be tough for ‘Boots.’
You never know how it plays out in the ring — some guys can take the power, some can’t. You only find that out when the fight happens,” Garcia said.
On April 12, Jaron Ennis unified the WBA and IBF titles by forcing Stanionis’ corner to retire him after Round 6.
Ryan Garcia is set to make his welterweight debut on May 2 against Rolando Romero at Times Square in New York City.
