Ryan Garcia’s father, Henry Garcia, has expressed concerns for WBC champion Devin Haney ahead of his upcoming clash with former champion Jose Ramirez (29-1, 18 KOs).
– What do you think about Jose Ramirez vs. Devin Haney?
– If I were Haney, I’d be careful, because Jose Ramirez is a Latino—and you know how Latinos fight. They don’t play around.
If he were fighting Duarte, I’d straight up say, ‘You better back out, because Duarte is no joke.’ But Jose Ramirez is no joke either.
I’m telling you, this guy is no pushover. I’ve seen him fight. I’ve seen him train multiple times. He’s going to give Haney one hell of a fight, believe me.
I hope Haney is ready for this. I know his father has studied Ramirez, but they don’t truly know what kind of fighter he is. I do, and I’m telling you—there’s no turning back now.
Let me put it this way: if Jose Ramirez beats him up, I’ll be worried for Haney. That’s why I don’t think he’s mentally ready for something like this.
Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney fought in the spring of 2024. Garcia initially won, but the result was overturned after banned substances were found in his system.
If Haney defeats Ramirez and Ryan gets past Rolando Romero, a rematch between the two is planned for 2025.
