American boxer Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) announced that he is postponing his return to the ring due to a wrist injury, which will require surgery. Previously, there were reports that Garcia’s next opponent would be Japanese kickboxer Rukiya Anpo—in an exhibition bout in Japan at a Rizin event.
“I came here to apologize. I’m sorry I have to postpone this fight. During training camp, I injured my right wrist and, after consulting doctors, found out I need surgery.
I had to take some time for treatment. I want to thank Rizin and Fanmio for the opportunity, and I’m still excited to fight in Japan soon. All of this will happen right after I recover in 2025.
I’ll be back to finish what we started with Anpo, and he’ll eat his words, I guarantee that. I just need a little rest, but when I return, it’s going to be a sensation in Japan,” said Garcia.
On December 31, Anpo held an exhibition fight—defeating Sina Karimian by judges’ decision. Garcia has not boxed since he defeated Devin Haney by decision, then received several positive doping tests afterward.
