Rolando Romero: "Ryan Wants to Be a Model"

Former world champion Rolando "Rolly" Romero (16-2, 13 KOs) shared his thoughts on his upcoming opponent, fellow American Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs).

"I don’t think Garcia has evolved as a fighter. He’s still doing the same old sh*t. When I sparred with him, I had only been boxing for three years. I started at 17. He was a multi-time national champion—started at five years old. Damn, it took him all that time just to develop a little bit.

Honestly, I’m shocked he still hasn’t become a champion. His only real shot was against Gervonta, but instead of cutting weight to make the 135-pound limit, he just didn’t bother.

And against Devin (Haney), we all saw he didn’t even try. He doesn’t want to be a champion—he wants to be a model. The only thing I care about right now is fighting Ryan Garcia," Romero told Ring Magazine.

Romero and Garcia are set to face off on May 2 in Times Square, New York.
