The 29-year-old American Rolando Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) has been formally elevated to full WBA welterweight champion (66.68 kg / 147 lb).
The promotion came after previous title-holder Jaron Ennis vacated the belt to campaign up at super-welterweight. With Ennis gone, Romero inherits the throne.
Romero’s most recent outing was a unanimous-decision victory over Ryan Garcia—a bout that made history as the first boxing show ever staged in Times Square.
