Rolando Romero on Why He Doesn't Believe Crawford Can Beat Canelo

American junior welterweight contender Rolando "Rolly" Romero (16-2, 13 KOs) shared his thoughts on a potential showdown between super middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) and WBA junior middleweight champion Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs).

"We're talking about a 168-pound (76.2 kg) power-punching Canelo fighting a 147-pound (66.7 kg) fighter who looked terrible at 154 (69.9 kg).

Crawford took a lot of shots in his debut at junior middleweight against Israil Madrimov. Imagine if Canelo landed just one of those shots—especially with all that extra weight behind it. You can’t even compare the two.

Remember when a 154-pounder moved up to fight Canelo? Are you telling me Jermell Charlo is smaller than Crawford? I would never make that fight.

Do you seriously think Crawford can do what Floyd did to Canelo? It’s a completely different fight—no comparison. This is a 147-pounder against a 168-pounder. That’s a 21-pound (9.5 kg) difference. Even if we use 154 as the reference, it’s still a 14-pound (6.3 kg) gap.

Bud just wants a payday. He needs to cash out before it’s too late," said Romero.

According to early reports, Canelo vs. Crawford is being targeted for September at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Before that, on May 3, Alvarez will defend his undisputed super middleweight title against IBF champion William Scull.
