According to Iltalehti, Finnish heavyweight Robert Helenius has officially retired from boxing. The 41-year-old former contender ends his career with a record of 32 wins (21 by KO) and 5 losses.
Helenius' final appearance in the ring came in a knockout loss to Anthony Joshua, who stopped him in the 7th round.
It has now been revealed that Helenius has taken up a new path — he was elected as a municipal council member in the city of Porvoo, near Helsinki. He won the local election with 149 votes.
"After 41 years of life and 27 years in boxing, it’s probably a good idea to preserve a few brain cells now that my career’s over," Helenius remarked.
