Results of 2023 by the Writers' Association of America for Boxing

The Writers' Association of America for Boxing (WBAA) has announced its awards for 2023.

Fighter of the Year: Naoya Inoue

The Japanese fighter scored two victories in 2023, defeating Stephen Fulton and Marlon Tapales. Naoya became the second fighter to become an undisputed world champion in two weight divisions in the four belt era. Nominees for this award included David Benavides, Terence Crawford, Gervonta Davis, and Devin Haney.

Fight of the Year: Jaime Munguia vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko

This bout took place in June 2023, with Munguia securing a unanimous decision victory over Derevyanchenko. Other contenders for this award included Beterbiev vs. Yarde, Cordina vs. Rahimov, Rafael Espinosa vs. Robeisy Ramirez, and Nery vs. Ovanesyan.

Trainer of the Year: Brian McIntyre

Both of McIntyre's fighters, Terence Crawford and Chris Eubank Jr., emerged victorious in 2023. This is Brian's first WBAA award. Nominees for this category included Bill Haney, Shingo Inoue, Andy Lee, and Shane McGuigan.

Manager of the Year: Bill Haney

Bill Haney received his first award for guiding his son, Devin Haney, to the WBA world champion title. Other nominees included Cat Connolly and Egis Klimas.
