Regis Prograis on the Bout Against Catterall: “It’s a Key Fight for Both of Us”

American boxer Regis Prograis (29-2, 24 KOs) shared his expectations for the vacant WBO International title fight in the super lightweight division (up to 63.5 kg) against British fighter Jack Catterall (29-1, 13 KOs) in an interview with Ready to Fight. The bout is set for October 26 in Manchester, United Kingdom.

We remember you well from your fight with Josh Taylor; it was an excellent matchup. But now it’s a new year, a new day, and a new opponent—Jack Catterall. You both are great fighters and respect each other, but what will happen on Saturday night? This is an important fight for both of you, isn’t it?

– “Yes, it’s a key fight for both of us. For me, it’s a chance to become a champion for the third time, and for him, it’s his first. So, we both have a strong desire to win, and I think it will be a very, very good fight. For me, the most important thing is to step into the ring and be Regis Prograis. If I do what I’ve been doing in the gym, there shouldn’t be any problems.

Your team says you’re in the best shape. Sparring has gone great, unlike the camp before the Haney fight. Do you feel good this time?

– “Yes, I feel like myself again. Mentally, I’m back to my usual state. The last two training camps were very tough due to various distractions, but this time, since I arrived here, there have been no distractions. I’ve been calm and relaxed all week. It was a bit boring sitting in the room all day, but that’s exactly what a fighter needs. Not just this week, but throughout this camp, I’ve lived like a true fighter from start to finish.

Your opponent is a great strategist, but I’m curious how you’ll approach Saturday night. What tactics will you use to defeat Catterall, considering he’s very strong?

–“Yes, he’s a very good fighter. I can’t reveal my main plan, but if I stay true to myself, if I am Regis Prograis, everything will be fine. I’ve felt calm and confident this entire time, so I’m very confident in myself.

In May, Jack Catterall won a unanimous decision against Josh Taylor (19-2, 13 KOs). Regis Prograis last stepped into the ring in December, losing a unanimous decision to Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs).
