“Referee took this fight from me” Cruz and Roach React After the Fight

On the night of December 7 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, USA, Isaac Cruz (28-3-2, 18 KOs) faced Lamont Roach (25-1-3, 10 KOs) for the WBC interim Junior Welterweight title (up to 63.5 kg).

The bout went the full 12 rounds and ended in a majority draw. The judges scored it 115–111 for Cruz and twice 113–113. As a result, Isaac retained his title.

In the third round, Roach was knocked down, and in the seventh, the referee deducted one point from Cruz for punches to the back.

After the fight, Roach didn’t hide his frustration.

“All I want is fair treatment, that’s all. I think I pulled out the win. A close one, but a win. This is some bulls**, man. I’m absolutely sure I won,” Roach said.

Cruz, for his part, is convinced that without the point deduction in the seventh round, he would have won by unanimous decision.

“I won this fight, and the referee took this fight from me” Cruz said.
