Promoter Ben Shalom has announced efforts to arrange a final WBA eliminator for heavyweight contender Martin Bakole (20-1, 15 KOs) in the super heavyweight division (over 90.7 kg). "We have been trying to make this happen for some time. We are in touch with the legendary Don King and his team, but we are currently trying to reach an agreement.
This is an opportunity that Martin has worked hard for and is something he wants to pursue. He has made it clear that this is the path he wants to take.
So, hopefully, we can organize this fight, agree on the terms very soon, and make progress," Shalom said.
The Congolese fighter had two bouts in 2023: in April against Igor Shevadzutsky (11-1, 9 KOs) and in October against Carlos Takam (40-8-1, 28 KOs). In both instances, Bakole won by technical knockout.
It's worth noting that the current WBA titleholder is Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs), who will be boxing against WBC champion Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) on May 18th for the title of the undisputed world heavyweight champion.
