Promoter: “If Parker Wins — Usyk Will Be the Next Target”

Joseph Parker / Mark Robinson, Matchroom Boxing

David Higgins, promoter of WBO Interim Heavyweight champion Joseph Parker, has shared his thoughts on a potential fight with undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk.

“Our goal is to become undisputed, and we are ready to fight anyone to achieve that. If Parker wins, Usyk will immediately become the next target.

Previously, I assumed Oleksandr might not want that fight — maybe he’d vacate the title or retire. But after a few phone conversations with Egis Klimas, I heard something different: it seems Usyk genuinely wants to remain undisputed. So now I’m much more optimistic that the fight could happen if Parker wins.

No fighter at Usyk’s level fears anyone. Like all top heavyweights, he’s willing to face anybody. Parker doesn’t fear Usyk, and Usyk certainly doesn’t fear Parker. He unified titles at cruiserweight and heavyweight, and has beaten Dubois, Fury, and Joshua — twice. That’s impressive.

Usyk must be considered among the greatest P4P fighters in history. We would gladly make this fight when Parker is at his peak, and in my opinion, his style makes him a very interesting opponent for Usyk,” said Higgins.

On October 25 at the O2 Arena in London, UK, Joseph Parker (36-3, 24 KOs) will face Fabio Wardley. The WBO has mandated Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) to defend his undisputed title against the winner.
